๐Project Overview
Project Overview
Landmark Group, a leading retail and e-commerce conglomerate in the GCC region, embarked on a modernization project for its fulfillment center in Kuwait. The goal was to enhance operational capabilities to meet growing e-commerce demands and reinforce its commitment to innovation and superior customer experience across the MENA region, India, and Southeast Asia.
The project focused on upgrading the existing facility by integrating advanced automation solutions to drive higher efficiency, flexibility, and precision in fulfillment operations. This initiative was part of Landmark Group's broader strategy to leverage technology in redefining consumer experiences.
A collaborative partnership was formed with Addverb, a global robotics and automation company, to design and implement the automation upgrade, ensuring the solutions were tailored to the specific needs of the Kuwait distribution center.
Technical Solution
Zippy Robotic Sortation System
The centerpiece of the automation upgrade is Addverb's Zippy robotic sorter, specifically the Zippy 6 model. These autonomous mobile robots perform efficient table-top sortation, intelligently moving and directing items to their designated shipping lanes or destinations. The system is designed for high-speed, accurate sortation in e-commerce and retail fulfillment environments.
Dark Warehouse: Fully Automated Warehouse Operations
Vendor: Addverb
Key Features
The Zippy robotic sorters provide high-speed and flexible sortation, capable of managing up to 1,000 sorts per hour. This scalability is crucial for handling peak season volumes typical in e-commerce. The Quadron shuttle system offers high-density storage and rapid retrieval, with each shuttle efficiently moving about 100 crates hourly to support continuous order fulfillment.
The entire automation ecosystem was integrated into the existing fulfillment center, demonstrating a retrofit approach that enhances capabilities without requiring a completely new greenfield facility. The solutions were selected to provide Landmark Group with greater operational flexibility to adapt to changing order profiles and market demands.
Results & Benefits
The modernization successfully boosted the facility's sortation capacity to 1,000 sorts per hour, significantly increasing throughput and speeding up order dispatch. Overall operational efficiency and flexibility were enhanced, allowing the center to respond more effectively to the dynamic nature of e-commerce fulfillment.
By automating key processes, Landmark Group strengthened its foundation for operational excellence. The increased speed and accuracy directly contribute to an improved ability to deliver exceptional customer experiences reliably and at a larger scale, supporting the company's growth ambitions in the region.
System Integrator
Addverb acted as the system integrator and technology partner for this project. They provided the robotic sortation systems (Zippy), the carton shuttle systems (Quadron), and the expertise to seamlessly integrate these solutions into Landmark Group's Kuwait fulfillment center operations. The collaboration was noted as a key factor in the successful implementation of the automation upgrade.
